Dr. Thomsen is Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. He received his MD from the University of Arkansas and completed his combined Internal Medicine / Pediatrics residency training at Vanderbilt, where he also served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine. He received his Infectious Diseases fellowship training at Vanderbilt, where he won the Department of Pediatrics Fellow Teaching Award, and he joined the Pediatric Infectious Diseases faculty in 2012. He also obtained his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) degree from Vanderbilt in 2013. His research focuses on the adaptive host response to staphylococcal infections in children, identifying novel targets to combat S. aureus / MRSA, and evaluating diagnostic and management strategies for pediatric bone and joint infections. His work was recognized in 2017 by a national award from the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, the Caroline B. Hall Clinically Innovative Research Award. He also serves as Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinical Fellowship training program at Vanderbilt.
