Heather Yun, MD, is Deputy Commander for Medical Services at Brooke Army Medical Center and Infectious Disease Faculty at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). She is an active duty Air Force officer and Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She completed her medical education at Yale University School of Medicine, and internal medicine and infectious disease training at SAUSHEC.
Her active areas of investigation target infections in vulnerable military populations, including combat casualties and basic military trainees. Her research has focused on infectious complications in combat casualties, travel and tropical medicine, multidrug-resistant bacteria, infection prevention and hospital epidemiology, and respiratory viral infections, and she has published >80 peer-reviewed manuscripts, reviews and book chapters. She has served as Medical Director of Infection Control at two referral military hospitals, and while deployed to Afghanistan. She has served on the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine of the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, as well as the IDWeek Program Committee, IDSA Education Committee, IDSA Program Directors Committee, and previously served on the ID Subspecialty Board for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). She is currently on the Board of Trustees for the ABIM Foundation.
