Dr. Shumaker earned her PharmD degree from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy. After graduation she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and a PGY-2 Infectious Disease Pharmacy Residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
Amy is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Infectious Disease at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System and a Senior Clinical Instructor at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine. Amy serves as the site co-director for the Cleveland H-STAR Program, which provides HIV specialty care and prevention telehealth services to other VA sites that lack access to HIV specialty care services.
She is a certified Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt and coaches numerous process improvement projects each year that focus on antimicrobial stewardship, improving healthcare delivery, and reducing patient harm. Since March 2020, she has been serving as a co-author on the IDSA Guidelines on the Treatment and Management of Patients with COVID-19.
