Buddy Creech, MD, MPH

Dr. Creech is a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended Vanderbilt University (BS, Biology, 1995) prior to pursuing his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed residency and chief residency in pediatrics, as well as fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases and a master’s degree in public health (MPH, 2006), at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is currently Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program. He leads a clinical and translational research program that focuses on clinical trials of new vaccines and therapeutics; the clinical and molecular epidemiology of S. aureus colonization and disease; and the use of integrated systems biology approaches to decipher the human immune response to immunization. He serves as Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded Vanderbilt Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit (VTEU), Co-Principal Investigator for the CDC-funded Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment (CISA) Network, Medical Director for the Vanderbilt Chronic Granulomatous Diseases Clinic, and former Program Director for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship at Vanderbilt. Dr. Creech was recipient of the 2006 IDSA Young Investigator in MRSA Research Award and the 2012 PIDS Young Investigator of the Year Award. In 2013, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS). In 2016, he was elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer of PIDS and in 2019, he was elected President-Elect of PIDS.
