Dr. Shively earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College and completed his Internal Medicine training and Chief Residency at Maine Medical Center. He returned to his hometown of Pittsburgh to train in Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He joined the Infectious Diseases faculty and Antimicrobial Stewardship team at Allegheny Health Network in 2017, where he serves as Medical Director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) at Allegheny Valley Hospital, and helps lead expansion of ASP services through the Tele-Antimicrobial Stewardship Program. His research interests include understanding antibiotic utilization and the effective implementation of stewardship interventions in less established settings, including outpatient primary care, community hospitals, and via Tele-Antimicrobial Stewardship. He is the Vice Chair for The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) Antibiotic Stewardship Training Course at the upcoming SHEA Spring 2022 Conference.
