Dr. Vrinda Nampoothiri, a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) graduate, is currently working as a Clinical Research Pharmacist at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences(AIMS), Kochi, Kerala, India. She is the recipient of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Young Investigator Award for research selected at 19th International Congress on Infectious Diseases. She also has various national, international publications and presentations to her credit.
Dr. Nampoothiri has been working closely with the Antimicrobial Stewardship(AMS) program right from its inception at AIMS hospital in 2016. As a part of this program, she played a key role in the clinical pharmacist driven audit of antimicrobials and feedback to clinical teams and various other quality improvement initiatives to rationalize the use of antimicrobials in the hospital. She has also been invited as a resource person to various pharmacy colleges across South India, to deliver talks focusing on the role of Clinical Pharmacists in AMS program.
Since 2018, she has been working in Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded, multi-center social science research project, titled “Antibiotic use across Surgical Pathways: Investigating, Redesigning and Evaluating Systems(ASPIRES)” in collaboration with Imperial College London, United Kingdom and University of Cape town, South Africa among other universities.
Dr. Nampoothiri is also currently pursuing PhD at Amrita Vishwavidyapeetham University, India investigating how the role of clinical pharmacist can be improved in AMS in Kerala by learning experiences from the United Kingdom and South Africa and has also been trained in Qualitative Research.
