Robin Kimiko Avery is currently Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases, and an attending physician in the Program in Transplant/Oncology ID, at Johns Hopkins. She is a graduate of Harvard Medical School and completed her internship, residency, and ID fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has been in the field of Transplant Infectious Disease for 28 years: at Cleveland Clinic from 1993-2012, and at Johns Hopkins from 2012 to the present. She has served as the first Section Head for Transplant ID at Cleveland Clinic and Program Director for the Cleveland Clinic Transplant ID Fellowship; past chair of the AST Infectious Disease Community of Practice, and co-editor of the 1st edition of the AST ID Guidelines. She has co-authored curricula for Transplant Infectious Disease Fellowship and has served on multiple guidelines and consensus panels for the AST, ISHLT, and IDSA. Her research has focused on translational virology in transplantation, viral effects on allograft function, novel therapies for CMV, post-transplant hypogammaglobulinemia, infections in incompatible transplant recipients, COVID-19 toutcomes and treatments and COVID vaccines in SOT recipients, strategies for safer living post-transplant, and education of patients and clinicians. In 2017 she was awarded the Best Consulting Physician award at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
